FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Yancey County Democratic Party Adopts Three New Resolutions to Guide Local Action

Burnsville, NC — August 25, 2025 — The Yancey County Democratic Party (YCDP) is proud to announce the passage of three new resolutions that will serve as our guiding direction for the years to come. These resolutions are focused squarely on the challenges facing our community every day and reflect our commitment to building a stronger, more resilient Yancey County.

The resolutions are:

  • Resolution in Support of Working Families

  • Resolution in Support of Affordable Housing and Protective Zoning Ordinances

  • Resolution on Fiscal Responsibility and Accountable Governance

Party leadership is working across our community, our region, and our state to address the issues that matter most:

The lack of support for families, which makes it more difficult for working parents, seniors, and children to thrive.

The housing crisis, which continues to make it harder for families and workers to afford to live here.

Rising property taxes, which are placing an unfair burden on homeowners and threatening the stability of longtime residents.

“These are big problems that won’t be solved overnight,” said Landon Beaver, Chair of the YCDP. “But we will make progress day by day for our people. We may be biased, but this is the best place on Earth—and we are working to make sure that our home remains accessible for generations to come. As a local whose family has lived here since the late 1700s, I know firsthand how deeply our roots run here, and how important it is to protect Yancey County for future generations.”

The YCDP emphasized that this work will take people from across the ideological spectrum, united in a shared love for Yancey County. “We need a capable and transparent government to work for us, not tell us what we need,” Beaver added.

For too long, local politics has been dominated by national debates that have little daily impact on Yancey residents. The adoption of these resolutions marks a turning point: the YCDP is prioritizing local solutions to local problems.

“We are your local Democratic Party,” Beaver said. “We’re here to serve our community, to earn your trust, and ultimately to earn your vote.”
