Honoring Sacrifice, Upholding Service: A Memorial Day Message from Yancey County Democrats

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and sacrifice have helped preserve the freedoms and values we hold dear. We remember them not only as soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines—but as fathers, mothers, children, and friends whose lives were cut short in the defense of democracy.

As Democrats, we believe that honoring their legacy means more than remembrance. It means continuing the work of building a nation worthy of their sacrifice. That means standing up for veterans and their families, protecting our constitutional freedoms, strengthening our communities, and ensuring our government serves all people—fairly, honestly, and with compassion.

Here in Yancey County, we are reminded daily of the deep roots of service in our community. Whether through military service, civic engagement, or neighborly care, the spirit of sacrifice and solidarity continues to shape who we are.

This Memorial Day, let us recommit ourselves to the ideals of unity, justice, and public service. May we always remember those who gave everything—and honor them through action that lifts us all.

With gratitude and resolve,

Yancey County Democratic Party
