June: Honoring Courage, Protecting Freedom

This June, we recognize both Pride Month and Military Appreciation Month—a time to honor the strength of those who serve in uniform, including our active-duty personnel and veterans, and to uplift those in the LGBTQ community who continue to live with resilience and pride.
At the heart of our democracy is the promise that every American—no matter who they are or how they serve—has the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That promise is not dependent on popularity, politics, or personal beliefs.

It is guaranteed by our Constitution.

That includes the right of pacifists to object to war, just as it includes the right of those of faith to live their lives according to their beliefs. But personal ideologies—no matter how deeply held—cannot be used to deny another American the right to exist safely and openly as they see fit.
Too often, both LGBTQ Americans and our service members face overwhelming challenges, including suicide rates far above the national average. These aren’t political talking points. They are human lives. And they remind us why visibility and support still matter.

We observe these months to say: You matter. Your life has value. And your rights are not up for debate.

Let’s stand together this June in unity and respect—because the freedoms we celebrate belong to all of us.
